I’m am a very spontaneous person and it drives Mr G mad as I end up talking to him about what I’ve done and he usually has to fix it! I hate missing out and I often think if I don’t act now I’ll regret it later. I book trains to London, book random business trips which he can’t go to…….he goes mad. I say yes to everything. Which reminds me I need to cancel some train tickets as we speak….ooops! In the past I really ran my business like this-it doesn’t work.
I love being spontaneous and I find we can’t be as spontaneous as we once were now we have kids. I get excited really easily and want to do everything now. In the last year I’ve really learned to calm down a bit, take a step back and really think about what I’m doing and this applies to my business too. Often I’ve just been impulsively doing things without really thinking about why or what I’ve been doing. Now that I’m taking breath before I act, I’m finding that I’m really learning new things and am actually doing things properly.
Not a lot of you will know this but last year I actually nearly gave up on Memelou. It wasn’t moving in the direction I wanted and I didn’t know where I was going with it. I was making mistake after mistake and I thought I was the only one who knew how to run it. I listened to no one. After exhibiting at harrogate last year I realised what a fool I had been thinking that I could keep doing things the way I had been. I completely crumbled and I cried for days after the show. I thought thats it. Its time to quit. I don’t know what I’m doing. Again Mr G fixed everything.
Memelou is having a bit of a re gig and a lot of new ranges are about to be launched. We have grown up a bit and I think the new ranges will show that. I’ve took my time over them and really thought about them. Normally I rush them through and then cry when they don’t work. I’m nervous, excited but the most important thing is I’ve learned to stop and listen to the advice of others. I feel I’ve grown so much in this last year as a business woman. I mainly have Mr G to thank for that for telling me to stop being so hasty and just think more.
So we will be at Harrogate again this year with a new look and a whole lot wiser.
P.s I’m still spontaneous…….in the right situations
I’ve been feeling a lot of love for baubles this year. I normally the type of person who buys wooden or metal decorations but as I’ve been looking around the shops and online it’s baubles that have caught my eye. What was that you say…….new decorations? Yes I need to buy completely new decorations! I’m also loving how a lot of the baubles are not necessarily christmas themed. There’s been lots of baubles that have caught my eye but these ones are my favourite. Please click on the highlighted links to go to the bauble loveliness!
John lewis I went in here with my 2 little boys-BIG mistake! They were grabbing everything in site and I never want to use the words don’t touch again as I must have said it a million times. Anyway that aside the baubles here are fab. They are not too pricey and just look super cool-I would like the pink telephone one please! (All images by John Lewis Johnlewis.com)
Liberty Well if I was filthy rich, I would make a stop here. These are my favourite ones and I know they don’t scream Christmas but I quite like that. Who says a Christmas tree has to just have christmas baubles on it, plus it means technically you can have them out all year? Beehive please! (All images by Liberty London Libertylondon.com)
Studio seed have the most beautiful personalised baubles out there in my opinion. Really gorgeous personalised ones like these are hard to find. Each bauble is beautifully handcrafted by the wonderful team in warwickshire. The have glitter calligraphy or paper cut options to choose from- Seriously how gorgeous! (All images by studio seed http://studioseed.co.uk )
So there you have it. They are my favorite ones. I hope they have inspired you to go and do a spot of bauble shopping. Tip- don’t take little hands with you!
I Love a cactus. I really do. When I was 16 I used to work in B&Q and with my wages I would buy any cute ones they had in the indoor plant section. I think the people that worked there thought I was mad but I didn’t care. They were a thing of beauty. I loved the ones with the colourful heads and they decorated mine and my sisters bedrooms for years.
You have probably noticed they are EVERYWHERE at the moment and I am really happy about this because they look fabulous. I have been looking around for some Cactus inspiration so I thought I would share that with you today.
Today I am writing my blog with slits for eyes! I’m so tired. I’m sure thats all I ever say to people when they ask how I am. Well I am bloody tired and I want you to know all about it haha!
As I mentioned last week I’m back at work and even though its part time, It’s a real struggle at times and I’m only on week 2! I love my little munchkins dearly but the lack of sleep is brutal, especially when I have to work. Oliver has nightmares on a nightly basis and Austin is 10 months old so I’ll let you work that one out 😉
The boys were at my beautiful godsons birthday party on Sunday and they were given balloons shaped like animals. Well I am so tired ( I don’t think I’ve mentioned this enough yet) that I have screamed at least 10 times when I’ve seen the cow balloon as I keep thinking its a cat that has sneaked in our house………the worst thing is I know it is in the kitchen but still forget it is there hehe! Ahhhh
This morning mainly consisted of Austin hanging off my legs crying or wanting up and Oliver just wants to eat so he has had about 7 breakfasts this morning. Meanwhile I have had nothing but coffee, dropped them off to childcare in my most ugliest of clothing as ran out of time to get myself ready and I am sporting a rather unsightly pineapple hairdo. It’s a good job I work from home most days isn’t it?
I know it will get easier as I get used to it, plan the night before better and get more sleep but for now I will keep trying to design with fuzzy eyes, a fuzzy head and crazy hair dos!
Well, after 10 months of being off with baby Austin, I’m officially back at work. I’ll be honest, even though I have really enjoyed being on maternity leave I am really excited to be back at work. I love being creative and having 2 little tots around all day everyday makes that very difficult so now I’m back I can get my ‘Creative back’ (in my best Justin Timberlake singing ‘Sexyback’ Impression) I know….I know….not funny. i know you are all thinking it’s been a year since I last blogged but I’ve been over on Tumblr…….which I now know isn’t really for me so wordpress all the way!
This morning was a bit hectic as you can imagine. I’ve gone from getting one tot ready and out the door before 9am to 2 so I’m trying to get used to that. Luckily Mr G was there to help this morning. We are having a Mexican themed night with the neighbours on Friday night and are trying to find Mexican themed music so him and the boys were listening to The book of life soundtrack and Austin puked all over Mr Gs head and then continued being sick all over him……..obviously being jigged about on Daddys shoulders at 8am doesn’t really work for him or me as I had to rush around getting him changed!!!
Straight after dropping the babes off it was straight back to business so me and Mr G had a creative thinking session and have made a big business plan going forward. There is sooooo much work to do but It’s all very exciting. I hope you will all follow me and my boys on our creative Journey.
I thought I would share some exciting news with you today and that news is that we will soon have christening and wedding invitations added to our online shop. They will come in packs of 10 and we at Memelou think they are very pretty 🙂
We are been very quiet here at Memelou HQ and thats because we are so busy getting ready for our fist ever trade show PG live on the 2nd and 3rd of June!
We are so excited to be exhibiting for the first time and show all our ranges to buyers etc. We will also be showcasing 2 new ranges called Gardinia and Tres chic. Gardinia is inspired by all things Garden and Tres chic is a french inspired range and has more of classy feel to it but of course keeping it fun in the memelou way. I will be sure to show you them after the show…….
I don’t think anyone could have prepared me for quite how much work is involved but I know the sleepless nights and frantic designing will be worth it. Luckily I started planning in January so I’m hoping everything sticks to the schedule. I’ve been working towards this for the last 3 years so it’s a really big deal for memelou. Only 4 working weeks to go-gulp!
In all our prepping, we’ve decided to update our blog to wordpress from blogger to keep everything up to date. I always struggled a bit with blogger so hopefully I will find word press easier to use. The blog may look a bit bare to begin with while we build it up so please bear with us 🙂
